hi all, another question about online printing services...

What happens if I want photobox (or whoever) to print an image that is a non standard size - i.e. something I've cropped.

Will they simply print the longest side of the image to the edge of the paper, and then leave white bands above and below?

Depending on the place, you'll usually get a choice of "crop" or "fit", one filling the space, one giving borders.

6 quid trimmer from Office World and you're off...!

Easy way to get what you want is to make your canvas size a standard size, with a different coloured border so that it easy to trim off. e.g if you have an 10"x6" image, stick it on a 10"x8" canvas, then you know exactly what you will get.

If it's PhotoBox, you'll need to select 'shrink to fit' when you order.

Use pixaco.co.uk!

You can then print exactly any shape image, and you don't loose anything at all, and all without faffing around selecting "fit to this or that"

See

www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?p=2&f=109&t=143716&h=0

for how it works.

Pixaco's own instructions are at

God damn F***ING F**K it!!!!

I submitted to pixaco and they cropped them. Don't feel comfortable giving my friends photos of their baby with the head cut off so I think it's back to the drawing board.

Ah well if you ignore simpo, that's what happens...

But seriously, if they got the order wrong, can't you return them and get them to do them again?

I mailed Pixaco about pro galleries and got a sensible reply back quite quickly.

Sounds like something went wrong. Pixaco state that they never crop. Give their customer service an email - they are always very helpful when I've tried them.

Bl00dey Pixaco!!!!! They are defo in my bad books.

I ordered a Canon i9950 printer and a load of consumables(not a small sum) from them last week, and paid an extra 10 Euros for 48 hour delivery. After 72 hours I received an e-mail saying they required further proof of ID! I cancelled the order immediately, but can you imagine my suprise when I turned on my computer this morning? I had an e-mail from them (this is 9 days later now) saying the goods had been dispatched yesterday!

I've done a little bit of digging and think i might know what happened..... IT's a bit of a tale so bear with me!

My broadband at home is cheap as chips as it's resold by a uk company from a german company. The result of this is that my IP address is listed as being in germany.

One of the effects of this is that when I go to google.com or multimap.com I am redirected to the german version of the site. I think this happened with pixaco since the photos were posted from germany.

Oh well, it was only £1.45 so no great loss, I'll re-submit them to the uk site and see if they come back better!

Reckon it depends on how you interpret the wording of their instructions... I took it to mean that they wouldn't crop when the images were uploaded in a suitable format.

When I ordered from Pixaco, my prints came from Germany too, and my isp is British, so I think that they must send all or at tleast some from Germany.

You'll be pleased to know that means you can buy Gaggia coffee makers from amazon.de cheaper than you can here! I tried ordering one from them and they wouldn't let me.
