Got a call from a mate today saying there were lots of people out on their bikes and would i go and take a few pics for the. No problem threw everything in my bag and wandered off to meet them, it was a 45 min walk to the jump spot. Got there grabbed the camera tried to turn it on and.... nothing i had left it turned on lat night and the battery was flat

Should have got a spare battery, it;s the first thing I did along with a car charger.

the spair battery was in the car and by the time i had walked the 45mins back to the car i couldnt be bothered to walk back to the jumps

turn the auto time off to 1 min. I do this quite frequently with my 20D. I'm more likely to leave the CF card behind in the reader though lol

Always set auto time off to a minute. Always, always, always have a spare battery pack. Always, always, always make sure that your packs are charged. You never know when you'll get a call. You could just miss the shot that you could retire on otherwise. At least that's what I tell myself. It helps to justify the expense that way

As I say to video cameramen - if your batteries run out, you'll have to remember everything you see and draw pictures of it later...
