Well, i picked up My new D70 today, and I have to say I'm very impressed!! I've been playing all afternoon! Certainly an improvement from my old P&S, i just need to find something interesting to take some photo's of!

Took a walk this afternoon by the river Nene, but didn't manage to get reaaly good shots, could have done with a telephoto, as i saw a couple of sqiurrels, but they were pretty shy!

I await my certificate for the D70 Clud, 406/simpo two!!

NUTS!

I mean, you want nuts not a telephoto lens for squirrels - as anyone from the Holland Park Secret Squirrel Snapper Society will testify....here (note use of 85mm lens - yes I know, technically, it's a telephoto, but you know what I mean!)

hmmm... i'll have to try that approach sometime! the squirrels i saw today were in a forest area, and not in the least bit tame! what sort of nuts work best?

This is the closest i got today @70mm (With the 18-70 D70 kit lens)

Please...Don't laugh!!

as an interested novice do you mind explaining what a D70 is? obviosly its a camera, i presume digital, but by the looks of it it takes superb pictures.

It's a Nikon Digital SLR - so you can change the lenses and when you take a shot, what you see through the lens is what you get. They cost about £700 with a lens thrown in, and you should go out tomorrow and buy one.

so is this the camera of choice by most of you?...what about the d70s? is it worth having the extra bearing in mind that i am a novice...

As far as I am aware the extras are a bigger screen (nice) and an extra wired remote release (also nice, the D70 only has wireless).

However with wireless remotes available for under a tenner on ebay, I can live without the wired version, and whilst I would like the bigger screen, I personally would save the money and spend it on lenses/extras.

Any other updates to the "s" are available as a downloadable firmware update from Nikon I believe.

I too have just joined the clud.

I have a Panasonic DMC-FZ20 - a cracking camera, but I wanted to move up in terms of quality.

I chose the D70 over the D70S as they price was £250 less with the £100 cashback at the moment, plus new firmware means you get almost all the features of the S (except the larger screen)
