Had a bit of a play with some still life (it can't run away! ) and a bit of a play in GIMP (free photoshop!), what do you think? For some reason I like this shot with the space at the bottom, a similar shot without the space didn't look as good.

anybody guess what they are...(easy really!)

You're getting dangerous!!

I see two things that (IMHO) could be improved. First, you've got typical DSLR underexposure - the whites are grey. You may like it like that, but it coud be brightened up a lot, I'd guess at least +1.5EV.

The other thing I see is a bit of vignetting. The 18-70 seems a bit prone to this, especially if you have more than one filter on. How about this?

I was going to add that it could do with being a bit brighter to bring out the orange more, but simpo has done just that anyway!

I think I agree about the empty area at the bottom of the shot - seems to give it a bit more balance.

Cheers, just had a play with the ev values on some similar shots, and +1.0EV seems to produce the correct (as eyeball Mk1 is seeing it) brightness, so i'll keep it set at that.

also had a bit of a play with the image...
before

After (cropped, and Brightness/contrast increased)
