What software?

I need some advice about photo editting software. I was thinking along the lines of getting it now and learning to use it before I then get a dSLR in the summer.

We've got Photoshop elements 2 kicking around somewhere but I have never got the hang of using it. On the other hand I've been using a trial version of Paint Shop Pro 9 this week and found it easier to use than paint!

Also what does the CS in Photoshop CS2 stand for as I've heard that mentioned a few times?

editted to say: just seen the price of CS2 on amazon, £510 , thats slightly out of budget!

I use GIMP www.gimp.org its free, not sure how it compares to photoshop, worth a download though!
