I'm after some advice regarding image storage for my dig camera. I currently have 1 1Gb C/F card, and want more space for when I go on holiday later on in the year.
I have been looking at either getting 2 or 3 more compact flash cards, or a portable storage device to download to, such as this|http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7516384429&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT. Was wondering what everyone uses. I am leaning towards the portable storage device, but am still not sure.
Ta in advance for any help!

Must admit, wouldn't be without my iPod Photo and camera connector, but that's a pricy option just for additional storage.

I'm borrowing a 20Gb Innoplus Phototainer from a friend for this purpose:

I use an Epson P-2000 and it is fantastic.

Although I wish it was a bit quicker copying data from a CF card (it takes 10-15 mins to copy over a full 2gb Lexar 80x card)

I have the 40 gig version of this. I must admit that it is a great piece of gear EXCEPT for the battery life. I find that I use it a few times to download 5 or 6 gig of pics and I get a warning that the battery is low. Spare batteries are about £40 so not that cheap. I understand that there is a car charger available for it but I don't have one.

Edited to add

The Archos AV420 is a much better option. I bought "Er In Doors" one for Christmas and the battery in that lasts a lot longer although it only has a 20 gig hard drive.

Be very careful if bidding on this (original item mentioned). It doesn't come with a hard drive,

I'm fairly sure I've seem similar for nearer £50. Them you need to add another £50 ish for the hard drive.

I've been looking on E-bay, and can get one on a buy it now for £120 inc 40Gb hard drive. Am watching a few more standard auctions, so will have to see what they go for.

Ah, but you cant view the pics on there. With the Archos and Phototainer / FlashTrax and Epson you can.

Something that I've wondered about these - can you view RAW files on these things or only jpegs?

Much to my surprise, the Phototainer would display NEFs.

I have the Vosonic XSII (40GB) came to about £120 IIRC - got a car charger with it too.

I bought it because I figured I'd just end up spening a fortune on CF cards for Le Mans this year. Managed (just ) last year by shooting the whole long in JPG (will need at least 2 or 3 times the CF this year to shoot the same in RAW (my intention).

I wanted to maximise battery life so bought one without a review screen - can do that on the camera if I want to.

It's rechargeable from the car should it get drained during the few days there and has USB2 so is quick to download when I get home.

Very simple, but that's just what I needed

Has anyone bought a Nikon Coolwalker?

Does it have review features that make it worth the money?

friends got one. waste of cash IMHO. small HDD and a small screen. it's a storage device - why do you actually need a screen. if you want to see the pic use a laptop or a computer. the vosonic I have fits in your pocket. it is quite small. a lot cheaper and larger hdd space. is all that extra cash just a a small veiw screen really worth it?
