I took these shots at Santa Pod a couple of weeks back! This was my first drag racing outing with the D70, which is the main reason I bought it in the first place!

First of all, here's a crash sequence. The car isn't in perfect focus, as prior to the run, I had set the camera to focus on a different part of the track nearer to where I was standing! When I saw the car start to lose shape, I just shot away and hoped for the best!

Here's a few others... ideally I would have liked to have used a slower shutter speed, to get a bit more background blur, but I found that my success rate suffered, so ended up shooting mostly at 1/640

And finally a couple off track

Some nice shots there.

I'll make sure to post mine after I take them in September...

As I understand it (never tried any panning myself) panning shots get progressively harder the higher the speed of the subject. Since those dragsters carve up the strip at a fair old lick it probably makes life hard with panning!

how many times can I say panning in one sentence!?

Great shots! Looks like Lex Joon had a bit of a weekend! Almost up and over on the Saturday and then that when you were there!

The padock shots look good too.

Wow!

Great shots...

...not sure that more blur is necessary, but it's a personal choice...e.g....

I'm making a couple of trips to the Pod in July. I'm crewing with a team at Bug Jam (not for my non existing mechanical skills but for my photography) and I'll be up there for the Mopar Nationals the weekend after.

Well I certainly don't think I can compete with either Sharkman or slimboyfat, but then again I bet I had consumed considerably more alcohol then them! hahaha!

Slinky.. nice pics mate! I was looking through them wondering how you managed to crew, and take all those shots.... then I realised it was your mate behind the camera!!!
Anyway.. not sure how I managed to miss your teams runs! On Friday's sportsman qualifying day, it may have something to do with the 3 1/2 hours it took to put up my tent. Followed by the traditional Tesco supply's run and the essential pit walk! By the time I actually settled down with a few tins to watch the qualifying, it was nearly over! lol
