Incase you're not quite bored of Goodwood photos already!

Here are the first few pictures edited earlier today, i'm about to experiment with some wine fueled editing on the rest just now :hehe:

Did anyone else notice the shocking number of dSLR cameras out and about this year? Pretty much everyone had a D70 or a 350D

I might have to re-train!

Just a quick question

For the shots of the F1 cars are those cropped from a bigger image or is that how you took the photo. If so it must take a lot of attempts to get right ?

Yep. At one stage there was a line of four of us - all with D70s within a few feet of each other. It would appear that a DSLR is the latest thing to have and the price point where the enthusiastic amateur can have one has been reached.

The pros have had them for, what, five years? Last year it was "early adopter" amateur and this year? IMO DLSRs are now volume product.

But all the guys who have bought D70s must now be dribbling about a D2X. Once acquired NAS really does get you badly...

Oh. I forgot my point!

Pros will always produce superior images to amateurs because they dedicate their full time and attention to image capture. No matter how talented an amateur is they can't compete with someone who is spending eight to ten hours a day, every day, with top skills gathering material.

I am not just in awe of the skills of the professional photographer. I am also in awe of their dedication and sheer hard work.

I'm sorry, but that's just complete rubbish! If we talking about motoring/motorsport photography most of the stuff you see in print is tired and cliched. There are a set of about five standard shots which just get repeated over and over. The majority of pros I see working at tracks are going for easy shots that they know will get into print. Most of them are not paid very much and need to get pictures that the editors will want, rather than messing around trying to create a work of art. The fact that you do something as a job does not mean that you're better than people who don't, in fact often the reverse where creativity is involved.

There are many photographers on this board who regularly produce work that is better than the majority of pictures I see in magazines. Of course there are some excellent pros around, but they are few and far between in my opinion.

As as for hard-working, I was sat behind two "pros" today at Goodwood. Despite the fact they were in one of the best positions at the whole event, they spent most of the afternoon chatting to each other and half-heartedly taking snaps of things going past. Hard work? I don't think so.

Phil

Love the image of the 205 T16 from behind kicking up dust. Also the Rs200 and 6R4 are very nice.

What a great collection of motors.
