Nice quality work. Velvia used to its best effect!

I'd be happy with one shot like that in my lifetime - this guy's got galleries of 'em!

Very nice stuff.

But I'm sure if a few of us set off to travel the world for a few years (sponsored by Ted of course) we could come back with equally good shots.

So who's up for the PH Photo Tour 2006-2008 and who'd going to break it to Ted?

Commitment is everything:

article on kenneth parker said:

Parker gets most of his large-format, color landscape shots while backpacking in the wilderness.

"That is 99 percent of what I shoot," he explained by phone from his home in Carmel. "So I'm lugging about 80 pounds in large-format-view camera equipment and then all the essentials for backpacking on top of that - you know, tents and food and clothing and equipment and everything.

And here was me thinking my D70 felt heavy after a while!

AS someone else said - I'd be ecstatic to have taken one shot like that!

So can you get digital backs for medium and large format cameras?

You must be able to

Meanwhile.....

Packing list:

large format camera
three lenses
big F off tripod
lapdog loaded up with RSE and PS and 'phone for logging on to PH
tent
beer tokens for two-three years
new walking boots

That's not a tall order, for Ted's sponsorship is it?

I'm with Simpo ! I'd happily wear the PH-sponsored T-shirt.

Yep, but you'll need at least £17K+ I believe - that's Bacardi's territory. Suddenly DSLRs look cheap!

Ok - I'll settle for a couple of D2Xs after all

And at least two young ladies in PH bikinis to carry it all and giggle.

NB Lapdog? A Papillon 3GHz perhaps?

You can get scanning backs which offer the largest area sensors but still not 5x4, 72mmx96mm in fact, so wide angles are a problem. Also a problem for moving things but quite good value if you want high res. $18,000 for a 594mb file.......... might slow your PC down a bit though.

Another solution is to use a sliding stitch adaptor. Three shots on a sliding back across the the camera back, still not full frame 5x4 though.

www.phaseone.com/upload/flexadaptorus.pdf

Using a P25 back would give you a finished file size of about 190mb. A P25 will cost you £20,000, but they will throw in a Hasselblad H1 camera in for that price.

Another snapper who also only shoots 5x4 film, because digital is still not quite good enough, is Joseph Holmes

www.josephholmes.com/index.html

After shooting on film it's digital all the way, scanned in and inkjet prints... large ones. Click the 'Processes' link for more technical info.

Can't make out the camera but the tripod looks like a carbon fibre Gitzo so you wouldn't need a lady Russian shot putter to carry it. The young ladies in PH bikinis would manage just fine .
