Has anyone tried a Sigma 50-500...?

As it says really, has anyone tried one? Read a glowing review at Lonestar on line & saw one of these on a EOS 300d on Friday - looked a bit unbalanced (I'm in the Clud, so I would say that!)

Has anyone actually tried one of these - I've got a D70 with the 18-70 at the moment and that seems to be as 'fast' as one of these at c. f4-5.6.

No.

But I did look at them and alternatives, personally I would go for the 80-400 with OS rather than the 50-500 with HSM. They go for about the same price but at 300+mm, I'd have the stabilisation over the HSM.

IMHO of course...
