Help with image creation...

I'm trying to merge two jpegs in order to make a little gift for someone. Is this really easy as I suspect or is it not possible at all?
The images are roughly the same size and can be altered a bit. Failing that is it possible to position the two images on the same 'canvas' and then to titivate the edges and so on?

Anything is possible with photoshop

photoshop has a "stitch" type option, its in the file menu. Allows you to merge two images to make a wider / taller one

Load both images into PS. Click on one and do Ctrl-A to select all of it. Ctrl-C to copy. Then click on the other image and Ctrl-V to paste. If you have the layers window open, you should the second image appear as a second layer. Then use the erase tool to rub through the 'top' image to reveal the bottom one as required.
