Help- Printer Banding
Discussion
I'm having a problem getting prints off my printer at the moment. They seem to be banding in dark area's to which there is nothing i can seem to do about it.
Its a Canon i950. I've done the head alignment, nozzle check, done the light nozzle cleaning twice and the heavy nozzle clean twice. Have printed off 3 x A4 size pics and the banding is still evident!! I'm guessing its a blocked nozzle as this seems fairly common on inkjet printers...
Anyone know anything else I can try other than saying 'stuff this' and buying a new printer. Its a couple of years old tho has'nt had a very hard life.
Cheers

Yep, save time, aggro and faffing and upload it to www.photobox.co.uk
Could just be the printer ink cartridge... I went away for a few weeks, came back and the same thing was happening - even though it was nearly full I eventually threw away the ink and put a new one in.
Perfect ever since.
..or of course the printer might be f****d. In which case I reccommend you put it at the bottom of your garden overnight. It'll soon learn who's boss.
Worked for me with an HP a few years back.

Cheers for the replies so far !!
Am currently trying photobox as we speak...take full advantage of first 10 prints for free !!
Have ruled out print cartridges causing the problem as have just fitted a complete new set and it was doing this before and after change. Will try leaving it at bottom of garden...see if that works...well assuming the magpies dont swipe it due to its bright silver colour
May look into a cleaner cartridge tho must admit i've never seen one of those before.
If all else fails may buy a new Pixma IP5000, have seen them for 119 plus delivery....

Take the cartridge out. Boil a kettle and put boiling water in a dish. Swirl the printer head end of the cartridge in the boiling water, and wipe gently with a bit of kitchen roll. Don't forget the bit that goes on to the vertical edge. Do that a couple of times
Then stick it back in your printer, run the cleaning cycle and print a test sheet. Aside from the first page or two being a bit watery, if it still hasn't worked, follow the process again. It should clear up.
If you can be fagged, try cleaning the print head with isopropyl alcohol before doing this, but I wouldn't bother, since most people can put their hands on a kettle, but isopropyl generally requires a trip to Boots.

Chemists don't sell IPA any more (well, they shouldn't but you might find an understanding one !). However, if you buy one of those Allsop tape head cleaning kits you'll get a nice little red bottle of it.

Blimey that is rather pricy considering I can buy a Pixma IP5000 for £119 plus delivery.
Anyone here got an IP5000 ?? I did the canon online comparison prints and using the same photo the print was'nt as good a quality as the IP8500 speaking in 'noise' terms. The IP5000 uses 1pl drops and the 8500 2pl so I would have thought the prints should have come out reasonably similer....
