Faces in public places ?
Discussion
Hi all,
2 photos
1.) Portrait of a friend
2.) Photo of 5 adults a couple of kids and two dogs at a summer fair in London.
Imagine a local community website wanted the photos.
Now if I wanted to publish (A) I would need a consent form signed by the person.
What about photo B ?
thx

The newspapers get away without a release because it is for 'editorial use', meaning they don't need one.
However if you want to make money from it, or for 'non-editorial purposes' it is best to get a release.
However if someone is part of a crowd in a public place you are usually OK, however the line is rather grey...

Found the link I was looking for - this is excellent and worth setting aside 5 mins to read.

I have been doing some work for the local paper, sports stuff. lst week i did a rugby league match, my first acutally, and 8 of the shots made the paper. so far so good.
The reporter on site got the images by email to the paper but he also reports for ruby league news, and guess where one of the images turned up.
i didn't sell the images to the local paper,i gave them FOC as i am using the experience to get better sports shots and they are getting me on the sideline at the games, however, this is a third party now whom the images were not intended for, any ideas where i stand??

Local press took some pics of Kinky Junior playing on a Bouncy castle, as our recent local carnival.
Journo asked if I was happy for her to take some pics of him, and also happy for them to be [potentially] published in the local newspaper.
Did not sign any forms or anything, just verbally agreed.
