Canon 300D and 10 year old Sigma 75-300 zoom.
Has worked fine for 6 months - greats photos but now Error code 99 keeps coming up and locks camera.
My other lens are fine. Tried the Sigma on another Canon 300D with same result - Error Code 99.
Looks like the contacts are knackered???
If so, not worth repairing.
Any good recommendations on a 75-300 zoom as off on safari in Kenya next month and must have a lens at least up to 300mm.
Any PHers selling a suitable lens?

Looks like some stuff about it here

Possibly the camera is now in an unsupported mode?

Thanks for the info guys.
As the lens is 10 years old and has done yeoman service, think its time to pension it off and buy a "proper" Canon lens.
Any offers of s/h Canon zoom lens up to 300mm will be greatly received.

Brent,

You could try 7dayshop.com for canon / sigma lenses.

I bought the canon 75-300 off them a few months back for £120. Don't know what it's like for wildlife, but I took these with it.

The only thing I have found is it can be a bit soft at the 300 end of the zoom though.

Hope that helps.

I've got a 75-300 II (or III, can't remember) non-USM going spare. Warehouse Express have them up for £159, 7dayshop for £112 - see here www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=777_4_409_40910&products_id=98414 they are going on ebay for hardly any money at all.

You can "borrow" it for your hols if you want, see what you think. Live in Marlow, work in Burnham (posh name for west Slough) so you can come pick it up if you are local. Leave me a bottle of Jura as deposit

Thanks all for the responses. Sorry I'm a bit late getting back but had a visiting delegation of Moroccans the last couple of days and only just got rid of them.
Will give the lens situation a bit of thinking time tomorrow as I will be working from home

Sometimes you think there really is a God up there!
Went after a S/H Canon 75-300 IS USM. Phoned up a branch of a well known chain (no name -you'll see why) after checking their web-site.
Yes - they had one in stock. Asked the price and they said £92. Asked him again about the price and he repeated the same number. He said it was A1 condition, boxed etc etc. Told him to put my name on it and would collect it today. (couldn't believe my luck)
Before I set off this morning(60 miles away), thought I would phone and check if it was still there with my name on it and double check the price. Yup - everything OK and it was waiting for me at £92.
After a lengthy crappy drive, eventually got to the store. Yes - the lens was there but they said there had been a mistake and it had been booked wrongly on the computer system etc etc. It wasn't S/H - it was brand new and price was £399.
I stood up straight at 6'3" and 16 stone and started a quiet dialogue (monologue really!!)with the Assistant Manager.
1 hour and several calls to H.O.customer services later, I left the shop with a BRAND NEW lens for £92.
In footballing terms...GOTTA RESULT

Thanks for your help so far guys. Much appreciated and thought you'd like to hear this story.
