Something that isn't cars, animals or flowers... The Balloons over Basingstoke event is quite good fun and only a 5 minute walk from my house so I had no excuse for not going and I had to give the Fuji E550 a proper workout so here are some snaps:
It all starts with the Nightglow to music on the first Friday in August
There are a few fireworks
and a laser show to entertain the crowd.
Though the finale was a bit lame this year as I think someone accidentally let of the big firework when they were setting up during the afternoon.
The following evening the weather was a bit cloudy and windy but it started to clear so the balloons were assembled for a mass launch.
The children entered into the spirit of it all
and waved and cheered as the balloons took off
Toucan travel ? Yes, though some could carry twenty.
The second wave prepared for take-off
and gently lifted off over the trees
Some wondeful textures exposed in the low evening light
and patterns too
Then came the dawn on Sunday. Balloonists like to drink.
and they might feel all out of shape
but in the dawn's early light
they launched over the town again
Some have often flown too close to the trees and have had to be patched up
but this might be overdoing it !
Bright primary colours look good
But eventually the last one leaves and everyone goes home
