Totally off topic, but did you know that the plans for the Saturn 5 Rocket got thrown out in house keeping at NASA!! And now nobody knows how to rebuild one...
Ummm, back on topic..
A strong tripod would be mighty useful for you. Saw a picture that was exposed over the night that actually tracked movement of the stars throughout the night.

Hi
I was having some stress with the moon a few months back (not in that way).
Some tips that might help.
For close ups. (I was using a 300 mm... yet to try the 400mm)
Try not to do moon when it is bright -it'll bleach out.
Try and do half/three quarters moon to get 3d relief.
Use a tripod! (DOH)
Put the camera (if it can) - to spot meter
Take lots on speed priority at different speeds.
Try at different ISO settings
Change to (or take in) B&W
As good as I got as a close up here:
