That's a real shame. Couldn't they make it pay?

I hope the YouTube channel is able to survive as a standalone entity, similar to Drivetribe

Sad times indeed. Apparently they only had 11 staff, so I'm not sure the cost savings would be that significant to Amazon.

I reckon Chris and wassisname will likely start their own Youtube channel. With 470k subscribers I'm sure they could make it pay.

The side-by-side camera comparisons were very useful.

We were never sure if 'dpreview' stood for 'digital preview' or 'digital photography review'...

If Amazon didn't want it why didn't they sell it? Perhaps the old people or the redundant staff can put it back together again...

God that’s a shame. I used that site so much before I went pro full-time. Some really knowledgeable people there (and some absolute maniacs).

A great shame, the internet will be a lot worse off when it closes.

I could never really understand why Amazon bought it in the first place. I think once they had it, they just couldnt figure out what to do with it.

Agree it is a real shame they are closing, and you would think it would be possible to give / sell it to someone else to continue. At least Chris and Jordan are going to carry on doing their stuff, albeit at Petapixel now:

The fact that they’re going to close the site totally rather than archive it seems particularly mean-spirited. The cost of just leaving it there would be a rounding error for Amazon.

I've referred to DPR so many times over the years and it's been invaluable on many occasions. Hopefully it'll be archived and not lost.

Yes, I’ve used DPReview so many times. I have always enjoyed Chris and Jordan so I’m pleased to hear they are going to continue at PetaPixel.

Very unreasonable that DPReview won’t be held in archives for reference material.

Can't the whole site be downloaded by somebody clever? - for personal use only of course.

What a shame. For me it was the definitive review site, technically competent objective reviews backed up by test images.
Not only that, you could do side by side comparisons of the same test shot snapped different cameras.
When compared with the subjective superlative laden reviews of the blogging bozo brigade, DPReview was a trustable, reliable resource.
It'll be sorely missed - and I had no idea Amazon owned it.

I'm sure someone clever could set up some kind of web scraping tool that could get all of the content. But then what? They couldnt publish it online. I don't know about you, but I wouldnt fancy taking on Amazon's legal team.
