We've just had the mother of all thunderstorms in Peterborough, 2 or 3 storms at all at once, with (at least) 1 strike hitting something...
anyway, here is a couple of shots of the lighting. enjoy!

Quite simple really...
I used 30sec shutter speed, then played about with the apertue (1st pic was f19, 2nd f9.5) to get the right exposure, its a bit hit and miss until you get a good setting (thank god for digital!).
Manual focus set @ infinty, low iso, then point the camera towards the strikes on a decent tripod.

The 1st photo was two seperate storms/strikes, I was sometimes getting upto 8/10 seperate flashes of lightning per exposure tonight, unfortunalty mostly sheet lightning.

A lot of luck comes into it, but with a long shutter speed, you have more chance of getting a strike on film/CCD

Cheers
TP

Another way requires a very dark night. Set the camera to bulb and wait with the shutter open until after the lightening (a cable helps here), then close it.

Fantastic! Our storms were mid afternoon so there was no chance of capturing anything.

Very nice! Every time there is a hint of a storm I get my camera out and never catch a thing!
