Personal PVR's
Discussion
Does anybody have any experience with the Mustek PVR-H140, I'm just after a cheap digital video recorder for use with my mini cam on car track days. So audio isn't an issue, and screen quality isn't important either.
But I can't find anywhere that can tell me what the recording resolution is for video? Does it record at standard PAL size and frame rate (720x576 @ 25fps) or does it compress it to a smaller size and lesser frame rate?
Please help, before I waste my money on ebay!!

I bought one to use with my bullet cam.
If you want something that you don't have to worry about changing tapes with, it's not bad. The video's compressed, mpeg4, with 3 sizes (using the highest, I've got a 6m36 clip which is 65.1mb and a 69m57 clip which is 813mb). I've also had problems moving files from the Mustek onto both my laptop and desktop which I had to get around by copying the file to an SD card first.
There's a 10mb/57sec clip here if you want to get an idea of quality, and to see if you can edit the format.
I held mine in my Tomtom holder, but after half a days constant use it overheated and wouldn't stay on for the rest of the day, but I think this is purely down to air flow.
Just ask if you have any other questions.
Martin.

You don't have to, and it turns off the screen if it's running on battery. I had power to it as I was planning on recording the whole trip.
It doesn't have a 12v lead, so I was running it from a £30 240v invertor which I already had.
