Hi

I have been asked to put a print onto canvas by my girlfriend. She wants it to be about 25"-30" square or rectangular.

Any recomendations for sites that offer this service and any tips about the types/quality of the photo's I should submit? The originals were taken on a Canon G6 7 megapixel camera.

Any editing I should do to the photo that would improve the result?

These are some of the candidates although I will probably crop some of them slightly.

Hi Colin

I've done this a couple of times. I use a local company, but I know several others will chip in soon with national recomendations.

My only tips.

B&W print better than Colour
Get it framed by the same print company (cheaper)
Whatever you do make sure you send a pic with plenty of contrast (may be worth adding some before you send)
I send a paper print with the file and tell them "I want it to look as much like this as possible"
Fine detail get's lost on bumpy canvas - big subjects work well. (Your number 2 will work best IMHO)

I want to do this too, with this pic:

It's only 2Mp and I'm not sure it will blow up that big. Worked ok onto a 7"x5" print from photobox.

Any advice also appreciated.

I'd say go for it, I'm sure it will look fine.

I've blown a 2.2mp image up to 20x16 and there isn't the slightest hint of any pixelation or drop in quality so clearly it would stand going bigger.

Ta. That's what I wanted to hear.

I think the picture is simple enough to cope. 20x16 sounds a good size.

Photobox do a canvas option although I haven't tried it.

The flower pics look good but I don't like the grey b/g in the top one; it just looks fake and wrong.

I wouldn't worry about megapixels - nobody looks at posters that closely, and if they do, tell them not to be so nosey!

Ta.

Thinking of the canvas as a birthday present for my mum. Was worried it would be too grainy.

Took almost three weeks from receiving the 'prints sent' email from photobox to actually getting them delivered. I think I'll sign for this one!

This was a birthday pressie for my mum (canvas) - looks great - although the dog has disowned it due to looking like a complete prat.

Saw this company at a home and garden fair in Derby yesterday. Quality looked good but the only restriction they had was size. they can print any length but width limited to 50cm

I'm a photographer specialising in cars - see www.fluidimages.co.uk

Last year I bought a state-of-the-art Epson 9600 large format printer because I was frustrated by the poor quality of most commercial printers.

I'm now selling an awful lot of prints on canvas. I use the very best Epson canvas, and I'd be happy to produce for any one out there on the forum.

Loads more info on sizes, prices etc. at my other site www.fluid-images.co.uk
