Convert old cine camera film to DVD
Discussion
Here is a company that does it in the US so you can get a rough idea of process, cost, etc...

I will find the name of a company NOT to use tonight! They were the best company and certainly came highly recommended but the chap who did the conversion and gained the reputation was taken ill.
The son (I think) tried to take over the work, but still has some very precious cinefilms and has not completed or returned them. We have no idea what is happening anymore so have sadly almost written the films off as 'lost'.

I think there are quite a few companies offering this sort of service weither as a send away or maybe done locally. I had about 3 hours worth of bench work (about 2 hrs 20 of cine plus a sound tape) converted about 3 years ago. The charge then, locally, was about £25 per bench hour. The output back then was to video at my request. They had a problem matching the sound track (I later found out why and I'm not surprised) so just gave me the result of that on CD.)
About a year later I dragged the video off onto disk and now have an edit file with the 'video' and sound matched up as far as is possible - there are some gaps and one tape may have been overwritten somewhat - and other stuff too tedious to document.
However, I never managed to successfully write it out as a dvd so there it sits for the time being. All 30Gb of it!
I used a local Audio Visual specialising company for the work and had no problems except it took them about a week longer to get it under way than there first estimate. I would imagine finding similar in Surrey would not be a problem.
