Nikon has issued a service advisory for the D2H, D70 and N55 (F55) SLR's which relates to the potential failure of certain components within the camera. In the case of the D2H this can lead to exposure and auto-focus errors, in the case of the D70 the camera can even completely lock up. The advisory makes it clear that this problem only affects a small number of cameras. Nikon is offering to repair at no charge any camera which suffers from these issues.

Not unless you want to buy me a 5D, then I'll happily join the dark side.

In the meantime however I'll take my chances with th D70. It would be nice if they could give serial numbers of cameras which are likely to be effected by this.

The Nikon Site said:

How can I identify if my camera is faulty?
With a memory card inserted: The green memory card access lamp blinks continuously and camera does not respond to any controls.
With no memory card inserted: The camera will not turn on despite the battery indicator showing a fully charged battery.

Hope that helps, still not as good as a list of serial numbers...

But once this has happened your camera is already broken and it's too late!

You'll find the serial number at the top on the front - if it says "Nikon" then it is of poor quality and susceptible to failure and you should take it back to your retailer and ask for one with the serial number "Canon"

Finally had a call today to say it'd be fixed FOC and I wouldn't have to pay as they've been insisting for goodness knows how long. Should get it back at some point but they can't tell me when.
