Hi camera folks. I m heading out to Spain to see the solar eclipse and wanted to take a tripod to hold my Nikon P950 with the hope of capturing some pictures. We will be travelling light with hand luggage only. Has anyone taken a small tripod through the airport as hand luggage. Was thinking of buying a small one like attached as the one I have at home is a bit big.

I have this very tripod under a different name and brought it with me in overhead locker sized hand luggage for a business trip with no issues.

The tripod however is utter crap. The plastic is weak, the adjustment knobs have snapped and it can't take the weight of anything significant without falling over. Don't waste your money.

The Manfrotto Pixi is pretty solid. IIRC the head doesn't tilt upwards much, but I think the eclipse in Spain is just before sunset so you might be ok.

I'd say that any tripod is better than no tripod. It might be wobbly - so don't wobble it.

I went to NZ with a travel tripod that was like 3 FM aerials hinged together. Dreadful by normal standards but it was adequate and allowed me to get shots I couldn't otherwise have got.

Manfrotto for me , something like these

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Manfrotto-Befree-MKBFRTA4...

You may need a quick release plate to attach to the camera as well

Hmmmm. .£100 was not what I was looking for. I’m not a keen photographer, more a holiday and part time clicker :-).

Anything I buy will have limited use beyond this holiday to be honest, though my son might use it….thats why I was looking at that first Amazon link at <£30. It does, however, have to do the job….be portable through hand baggage on a plane, and hold a Nikon P950 to point at the sun.

I bought this

Used it for taking pictures of northern lights in Iceland, water falls in Wales etc sirs fine in my over shoulder camera bag which then sits in my hand luggage. Pretty sturdy of 20 odd quid

A s/h one from eBay would get you a better tripod for £30, ie it was £60 new.
