Lombard RAC rally from sometime in the 70's. I almost suspect the later 70's but if so I don't remember where it would have been.

All from a 120 roll film again so I am guessing this would have been the old faithful Zeiss Ikon Nettar though that would be a surprise as the fastest shutter speed, as I recall, wasn't. Fast, that is. I may still have it somewhere ...

Bear in mind that these crops use about 1/2 the frame width of the negative so the cars are about 1/4 of the total frame width. Loads of contrast as it looks like the cars are heading into a low, late afternoon sun.

Speed

Style

Err .....

Familiar.

Great pics! Love the rally'ed up Merc.

I've been on the prowl for a nice Mk1 escort for a few months now, pictures like this really don't help!

Thanks!

They don't look too bad compressed for the posts. Some of the subtle grayscale detail disappears of course. The Escort will print acceptably from the current scan at A4 size for the complete frame. So the car would fill an A5 landscape size print. I think that is reasonable given the source. Mind you it starts out as a 33Mb jpg! I scanned at 16bit grayscale but Elements 2 can't handle that and converts to 8 bit. Probably not a concern for something that will be webbed anyway.

Could be worse I suppose. Some of the other scans have produced 250Mb tif files!

Have prepped a few more ...

One to put the bend in context - mainly 'cos the car is out of focus ...

A Mk 2 for those who prefer them.

Early Japanese stuff

....and another one trying a little too hard!

Can anyone spot the location for these from this last shot?

I remember doing a long run around one year with a couple of mates in the Celica (as above but without the Rally bits). Mid 70's and if these are from that trip the location would be Sutton Park in Brum.

they certainly didn't put me off!

I'm sure it's a stupid idea, but i've got an empty garage, and money to burn... it's that or wait and get a Griffith, which depending on how you look at it is either more or less sensible!

if the right 'scort comes up, i'll have it!

anyway, hijack over!

That's not Sutton Park - there's not any buildings like that in the park.

Hmm. I do recall visiting Sutton Park one year but I think that was in an earlier year than this. In the other hand if it is not Sutton I'm stuggling to think where it may be - don't remember spectating with a roll film camera at all and by the late 70's (very late) I was 35mm equipped. I do recall a couple of visits to the stages that were run at Donington back then but not visiting anywhere else.

Here is the full frame for the shot which shows a bit more of the building.

Does this add anything or should I post on P&P to see if the massive can offer suggestions?

By process of elimination from what info I have found on the web I suspect this is 1976 and probably taken at Doddington Park near Bath.

Can anyone confirm?

You would seem to be correct Mr LongQ

From other images I have found, this certainly appears to be Dodington House in South Gloucestershire.

The estate is now owned by none other than Mr James Dyson!!

They also used to run stages at many other stately homes in the area at that time as well - longleat perhaps being the most famous.
