Have been thinking of joining the Clud for a while.
Tried the Canon 350, but it just didn't 'feel' comfortable in my paws.
Still undecided as to whether to get into movies instead and go for the new Sony HDD camcorder.

Anyway, noticed D50 kit in Jessop (London) for £449.
Am I right in thinking that that is a very good price?

Also is the 18-55 kit the best option?

I'm getting VERY tempted

Video and stills are totally different animals!

It is a very good price, and it's not that different to the D70 in terms of spec. £ for £, it has to be a better deal. Unless you're going to get serious about photography, the 18-55mm should be fine as a starting point.

I got the D50 with the 18-70 kit lens. It's a bit more but I would suggest worth it. £449 is a good price though. Make sure you budget for an SD card or two (£75+ for 1Gb) and a UV filter or skylight to protect your lovely new lens (£20 ish) and something to carry it in / protect it while you are out.

Thanks for that Guys.

I'm pretty sure the D50 is the way to go.

The main reason is photos of my daughters. I have a Nikon 5400 which is pretty useless for quick photographs of constantly moving children . Hence, going DSLR or getting into movies and use the Coolpix for stills. I have a Canon camcorder which I enjoy using, but its not digital.

A trip into Town methinks....

Ah, right. In that case I'd suggest you see if you can get the slightly longer 18-70 (and/or add the Nikkor 70-300 'G' telephoto for £99). You'll also get much nicer flash photography if you get a Speedlight SB600 - more powerful, bounce facility, and less or no red-eye.

Right, that's your budget spent, I'm off

(but as you can see, the great thing about an SLR kit is that you can add bits as you go along...)
