Am sure the information is in the manual somewhere but darned if I can find it.

I have some photos from a 20D that are 4.4 MB. I want to post some on a website and they need to be about 50 KB.

I want to keep the original sized files, in case I want prints (shot in RAW and JPEG), so presumably I can copy and resize the copies without affecting the originals?

If anyone can explain to me how to do this, i'd be very grateful.

Thanks

Martin

Copy and paste the pics to another folder. Open PS or similar and resize the pics in there and save them

You can also use the 'Save As' option in PS which allows you to give them a different name. Eg the original might be 'IMG_1234'; the smaller copy can be 'IMG_1234a' or '1234small'

Thanks, but "PS or similar" - I don't have PS, only the standard Canon software. Do I need to get PS to do this then?

Any image manipulation software should be able to this very basic function. Double click on an image - what does it open with? Can you use that? Have a poke about for 'Image Size' or 'Resize' etc.

Windows XP can also do it for you, though not as well as PS - just right-click on the file and choose 'resize pictures. That will change the name as well, so you keep the original.

Failing that I found a copy of HP 'Image Zone Express' in my pack of HP Photo paper - mail me if you want it!

not having much luck with that, and am in dubai so the posting option won't really work (but thanks anyway)

may look around for photoshop tomorrow, which means 2 more questions, i'm afraid -

which version?

which book? i've seen reference on here in the past to a book about how to use it, but a search of "photshop" on the forum doesn't find it. is it the martin evening one (good reviews on amaazon)?

Thanks again

or just download a trial version of paint shop pro here:
www.baycongroup.com/paint_shop_pro/p01_download.htm

It will do what you want in about 10 seconds.

(check that it allows you to save files).

Think you need to download the powertoy for this first though:

clicky

To be honest I find it does a good enough job and couldn't be easier or quicker. I love it for quickly popping up a pic somewhere.

Which Canon software? ZoomBrowswer? If so, select the images you want to resize, select Edit from the menus/buttons on the left, select the 'internet' option and you get several choices regarding sizing, whether you want to save as a new file, etc etc.

Just let me know which version of software you have and I might be able to give you more detailed stuff.

Yep, zoombrowser.

Will try that, and am currently downloading the Corel software, so now spoilt for choice for options!

Thanks

Which version have you got? The latest one (5.2) is miles better than 4 and is easier to do exactly what you trying to do. If you've got the older version, then just download the upgrade from Canon's website.

Thanks chaps - managed to resize now. The photos, in case you're interested, are the first 6 here -
