Have you included a rangefinder ?

Won't it be tricky to turn the pages of the instruction manual under water ?

Diddy, is that a housing for a D70?

I have been trying to find one that I can hire for a weeks diving I have just booked for December in Marsa Alam, Ejypt.

Camerasunderwater.com sell them but the D70 one is about £300000000

What kit do you use?

Hi Greg

Yes, it is a housing for a D70.

It's pretty hard to rent housings for SLRs. A lot of dive shops & live-aboards rent housings for compact digicameras like the Sonys and Olympus 5050s etc... But they are cheap to buy, whereas the outlay for a D70 housing and all the associated gubbins is rather high...

I don't know anyone who rents housings for D70s.

But I do have a housings, strobe and ports etc for an F801s you can have on the cheap, if you want!

Sorry I can't be of much help there I'm afraid old bean.

Oh kit wise, well it's the Sea & Sea Housing and I have a dome port for the 12-24 which also does the 18-70 with an extension ring. I also have a flat port for 60 & 105 marco lenses.

I've got two Sea & Sea TTL strobes.

Your Italian Nikkor distributor?

Scuba Jim lives up to his name and uses Nikon; maybe he has an idea?

Si! You not heard of marco lenses, John? They're like macro lenses, but being Italian they break more often. And live with their mothers.

You jest! But I met a French guy in Papua New Guinea who had had a housing specially made for an F4 with the sport pack thing that went on the back so you could stick like 300 exposure lengths of film in it. He had had it made cos he went great white shark filming in S Australia and wanted to ensure he had enough film to take as many pickies as poss in one hit. (This was pre digital, BTW!)

The housing was made of caste iron or something and weighed a ton. I recall being in the water with him and having the housing passed to me to pass to him. I had my BC inflated but I still sank like a stone! God it was cumbersome. He did take good pickies though (well, above water, below water he was not that good).

Ahh, I have not seen the sea and sea housing, only the ikelite one. Something I might think about investing in before the trip then. I guess the s&s one is a lot cheaper than the £3000 for the ikelite one.

I am off to google land for a look. What, its lunch break time anyway boss!!

Thx.

GN

ps. 801 housing would be well worth ebaying, someone would love to have it at a good price I am sure. I could not bring myself to get en 801 to go with it! (unless it was dirt cheap )

how much are you talking???

All the Sea & Sea kit cost me what, about £3500-£4000, I really can't remember. The strobes are £900 each. It's also a lot more compact than the Ikelite one.

The 801s housing. Well, let me see...

It's a Subal housing and comes with a dome port for a 20mm lens, that also fits a 24-50 with the extension ring . I also have a flat port for the 105 macro. And an Ikelite Substrobe 300 flash. I have aperture gears and focus gears and zoom gears for 20mm, 105macro and 24-50mm zoom. Plus a synch chord for the strobe and various arms. It all comes in a Pelican case, and you can have it an AND 801s body for say, £600? It cost me x5 that new. How's that?

Sounds rather interesting!! Are we allowed to do this on here. I suggest we chat on PM. I will mail you for more details.

Quickly, will my 18-70 kit lens off the D70 work with the 801 and with the kit.

Not sure if its silly to buy this kit when I already have a d70.

I was going to buy a 105 mac anyway but the £2k+ for a new sea and sea dx-d70 housing and strobe is a bit much for my hobby dreams I am afraid.

Think I might just go for a super new compact digi that has an underwater housing available for it too.

No - the 801 is a 35mm film camera while the 18-70 lens is a DX lens and so the image won't cover the same area.
