A few lakeland shots
Discussion
Unacustomed to taking shots of anything without an engine I managed to grab these shots last week
Grisedale beck during one of the periods when it wasn't raining
Martindale Church
a young badger
and not a very good landscape shot but check out the road up
Cheers

It's a small world! I took this a few years ago (excuse the dust speckles, it's on good old fashioned film I haven't had time to process it):
Not a fantastic shot, but the light was a bit flat. I did crop it (but only *slightly*) to match the version above but it looks like we must have been stood on the same spot!

1.9 sec, f/14
ISO: 100
I used a tripod, mirror lock up and a remote release and no filters
Blimey, 1.9 secs with no ND. f14's not that small either. I suppose it was the ISO 100 that did it. Remarkable, well done.
err.... Yes .... exactly what I was errr thinking.... errrr
(phew thnk gawd there is an auto button)

The fact that the tree canopy is virtually unbroken at that spot and it was an extremly dull day contributed to the fact that I didn't need a filter.

Out of interest where was this. I'm heading that way in a few weeks and that looks like a fun bit of road.

It's the road that goes along the far side of Ullswater, past the world famous Sharrow Bay Hotel and through Howtown and just keep following the road. If you continue past that piece of road you will pass the 'new' church at Martindale and then you come to the old church (pictured above) if you carry on right to the end of the road you can see 'The Bungalow' a shooting lodge built around 1900 suposedly for Kaiser Wilhelm II, The house is available to rent and is owned by the Dalemain Estate, however it is quite expensive and you can't get a car right up too it. If you get this far you now have to turn around and come all the way back again

This might help:

[ Obscure factoid : If you go down to Sandwick bay and look over the lake to the right, on the far side you will see a lake front house with a built in boathouse, that's where I was stopping at the time. Built in 1920 by a retired industrialist, it's all very Agatha Christie ]
To anyone thinking of taking a trundle round there, it is a no through road, the road down that side of the lake is pretty quiet and narrow in places. No matter what you are driving and how good you think you are, I recommend you take it carefully. It is not Kirkstone or Hardknott and there can be pedestrians around.
Give my best wishes to Ullswater

Lovely pictures Ian - I spent last Christmas in a house just a little further on, about half a mile down the road from the white house in the center of your picture.
Was lucky enough to have snow on Christmas day and got this picture from the hill a bit further over from the squiggly road...
Beautiful area, I'm just annoyed that I only had my compact camera then which really didn't do justice to some of the views!

Martindale or Mattadale? or are they different places altogether?
The photo I posted is Martindale Church, Matterdale Church is on the opposite side of Ullswater on the Troutbeck road just after Dockray
just found a pic of Matterdale Church, not mine taken from www.visitcumbria.com/pen/chp9.htm
