I haven't been following this model - how much, what spec? I presume it's between the 70s and the 2X?
All here: www.letsgodigital.org/html/review/
10.2Mp, 2.5" screen, lower noise, quite a lot of stuff from the D2X, vertical grip, wireless, USB2, GPS... - and only £1300 inc VAT.
The new 18-200mm AF-S VR is a bit more £ than I need (better put towards a 17-55 f2.8), so plan to keep the 18-70 and sell the D70 body only.

It's shit or bust time:

The warranty will work in the U.K. as long as you buy the camera in the U.S. SO... what I could do for you is mail you a 2nd invoice as if you bought it in NY @ my store. I would send the carbon copy sheet so your signature looks authentic. And this would be the invoice you use if you should require service in the U.K. You could just say you bought it on vacation in the U.S. @ Berger Bros.
Also you can consider a 3 year extended warranty from MACK - www.mackcam.com $129.99
This does work worldwide and is even transferable in the event you ever sell the camera.
Lastly, I would need the following to preorder the D200 for you:
-scanned copy of front & back of your credit card sent to me in an email attachment
-scanned copy of your driver's license sent in an email attachment.
-Billing address and phone number
-billing and shipping address must match
So... it's down to me. What have I missed? Put your heads together and tell me why I shouldn't go ahead...
Big question is how much? If it's $1699, and if they will endeavour to send it in such a way as to minimise the chance of you getting spanked for vat and import duty, surely it's a winner. even if you get spanked, you are still talking something like £1160 (plus shipping.)
I'd go for it. Your credit card has fraud protection, if you don't get the goods it wont cost you anything.

Nikon D200 body $1,699.99 w/free additional battery
Nikon vertical grip for above $179.99
Shipping $82
Total $1,962 = £1,108.
If I get done for VAT, I can reclaim it through the business and offset the rest. I could do that from a UK supplier as well, but it would be at least £100 more and they haven't even been given prices yet.
Any more reasons anyone? Going once...

Congrats. I await with some interest how this progresses. Do they have an date they expect to get stock in?
They said: 'Nikon has projected early December as the release. I don't know how many we will get initially. You may or may not get one by the 23rd. However, we will call/email you prior to shipping to ensure that you still want it and are available to receive the package. Again I will NOT charge your card until it ships. So you can't lose really. I could ship to New Zealand if you wish.'
Can't argue with that really; every supplier will be in the same boat.
Right, I think I need a G&T!
(NB It also means there'll be a D70 body for sale after Christmas if anyone's interested?)
Good work.
Completely O/T: My house build hit a huge problem this week (the main beam due to hold the cruciform roof up was a meter too short, and a replacement can only be sourced from Scandinavia
), so all work stopped, and being totally pi55ed off, I bought and read 'What Hi-Fi' and ordered shed loads of Monitor Audio kit.
Almost as relaxing as a G&T.
Talking of which...

Not keeping it as a spare/2nd body? Might be handy if you're covering events and can have two complementing lenses....?
One round the neck, one over the shoulder...
It could have a role as emergency back-up I suppose, but then again such things are best sold while they still have a good value and I can put the money towards another lens... I don't think I want to be lumbered with using both at once; it would be simpler just to change lenses.

Simpo, why do they need that level of information simply to preorder? They could take a deposit from you via phone etc from your credit card without having to have photographs, signatures, credit card numbers and addresses..... Call me suspicious but just wondered why so much info? ;-)

Having had a few scammers trying to get plasma screens from me with false CC numbers, I know what it's like from the seller's end. Sending a photo/scan of the card not only proves you actually have it, but it gets the numbers to them without having to send them in an unsecure e-mail (they have onine ordering but I preferred to deal with a human). I expect the DL is for proof of identity and address: you should only send goods to the same address held by the CC company. If the DL and CC addresses match, they know the card isn't stolen. I'm happy with it; after all if you were shipping £1K+ of kit across the Atlantic to a complete stranger, you'd want to be sure they were kosher too.
