Now I haven't managed to find it, but I'm sure read somewhere it is possible, so my question is this:

Does anyone know if it is possible to take B&W shots with the EOS300D without Photoshopping them afterwards?

Cheers.

You might be hunting in vain. The implication here is that monochrome is available from the 350D onwards. Maybe its possible by a downloadable upgrade ?

(I'm glad someone's given a useful answer, cos now I can say....)

You'll be needing a monochrome memory card, then! Ask for one in Messups! I'm sure they'll help.....

Yep, one of these babies:

You'll need a B/W lens too - they have a monochrome coating to help eliminate unwanted colour...

The big question for me is why would you want to? You can take the colour out of an image but you can't put it back in... Taking it in colour in the first place at least means you have the choice.

Lol!!! I had to expect the above answers!!!!

The reason is because I want to take B&W photography and you get a better idea of what you've taken if you can see the B&W photo in the playback LCD.

I was just curious....but i'll Froogle for that monochrome compact flash card anyhow......

Interestingly I just found this bit of information:

Canon - Refering to the 350D said:
A new monochrome shooting (B/W) mode has also been added. This parameter should be used with care as it's impossible to restore colours to JPEG shots captured in B&W. RAW images can have their colours restored when processed by the supplied digital Photo Professional software.

That's an "interesting" feature, n'est-ce pas?

I think a useful feature would be for a card to organise all the pixels in an analogue format. You could then just add light to see the pictures you'd taken. Much more convenient and efficient than these electronic gizmos...............
