Thinking of going for one of these to boost the zoom on my Finepix s7000. It's not the cheapest (there are tonnes of non-Fuji branded ones on ebay for much less but i'm guessing there's a compromise on quality. Anyone used any such lenses?

I've used both that and the WA9.

Both very good but add distortion at the ends of the camera zoom ranges.
I've got some examples I looked out a while ago, I'll post them up later.

All the 2003- nov 2004 stuff at www.hankscorpio.net/trackdays was done with the zoom one on a 602.

I used the Fuji one on my E550 and it works fine. I get more use out of my wide angle than the telephoto though.

Wide converter, fully zoomed:

Tele converter, fully wide:

I thought they were fubarred till I read the manual...

Manual says:
Tele - "The TL-FX9/TL-FX9B should only be used for telephoto shots where eclipsing does not occur. Eclipsing occurs at wide-angle settings."
Wide - "This lens should be used at the wide-angle zoom setting (equivalent to 28 mm-46 mm). Using the lens at the telephoto setting increases the amount of distortion."

Thanks for the pics. Would i be right in saying that this isn't really too much of a problem. Would you not use the wide angle lens wide-ish anyway, and the zoom lens for zooming fully?

Spot on, for the scenes there, they would have been well within the normal range of the camera so no need for the TC at all but having the TC on there and being a lazy git lends itself to the creation of more abstract imagery!!

I would say though - they are still quite pricey and added practically no value to mine when I sold it to finance the DSLR, if you've any leanings towards an SLR in the near to mid future, it might be money better saved, you could get a sigma zoom with 200 or 300mm top end for not much more than that 1.5 TC. As long as you're not printing huge, creative cropping can just about get you in that close.

Just my 2p

The standard zoom on the E550 does 32-130, with the 2x convertor you get an effective working range of about 140-250, similarly for the .75x convertor at the other end.
