Anybody any experience of the Velbon Ultra Luxi F?

I had a look at one today and it has a nice arrangement of the legs to make it nice an low but the centre column is massive so can't go too low and I wouldn't want the weight sitting at the top of the centre column, website says it's splittable but I couldn't see how. Looked a bit lightweight too. It has a nice head on it tho.

Anybody got the Sherpa 600 or the Ultra Maxi F?

I'm not that interested in the ones with the big posable arm or the ones that have a reversible centre column (I have enough problems with the camera in normal orientation!!), just a standard tripod, that will hold 2+ kgs, that I can use about a foot of the deck if I want to...

Have you tried a Uni-Loc / Benbo... I've got one - excellent for low level stuff.

You can see them on www.warehouseexpress.com/index.cfm?binsandscopes/tripods/benbo.html

For low on the cheap, how about a beanbag?

Manfrotto 190PRO might be an option, versatile, quick to set up and will go so low vertically you'll be loathed to bend down that far.

I bought the Luxi sf last week at Jessops. Went in for the Luxi F but it was £99 and the SF (higher spec) was on special at only £69.

The centre column screws in and out. The legs are a master piece of engineering and the 2nd handle that adjusts the level of the camera cleaverly screws out of the pod and into the end of the first handle so it folds away into its tiny carry bag.

I am really chuffed with it for 70 squids. Well worth a look while its on special.

Also bought the Manfrotto 709 table tpod which is very solid and most impressive. Handy to always carry in the camera bag for those times when you want to be in the pic but can't find a level wall to rest it on, or just if you've not got your tripod with you.

I recently got a monopod for about £40 - lightweight and easy to use about 4 stages of collapce. Fed up with lugging various tripods around.

Buy a tripod, split it into 3, keep one leg and sell the other two for a profit.
