...a very limited hobby of mine (when I have spare cash, which is virtually never) is collecting photo realistic art.

I just wish I could get my photo's this realistic!

My fav is Andrew Potter (Cornwall) but just discovered (and bought this morning), Alan Thompson (Cumbria). Oil on board - bad photo, doing it no justice whatsoever, taken indoors.

I've made it small, cos with the real one you have to be at least 15 feet away. Is this clever or what!

Anyone got any recommendations of who else I should spend the tax mans money on? (they really need to be alive as good dead ones are about 100 times the price)

Ta

Steve

Guy called Towsend, or Townshend (Steven?) does very realistic dog paintings in rural settings - I think he's Cumbrian based...

Got a beautiful print called "Early Riser" or something.... I'll go and find out more.

Have you heard of him?

Phew - didn't realise for a minute that you'd made a typo.

I thought you meant £2,500

Hmm, intrigued I thought a little search was in order.

Self penned?

Seems to confirm the £2,500 though I did find a US site selling some of the prints for $165.

From 'collect Art' site:
His signed limited editions are one of the most sought after prints on the market, and have become collectors items, all prints are sold out on publication. His first large print format print 'Early Start' now retails for as much as £2500

Well I bought mine in the early 90s.

I have a vague recollection from looking through the other prints on the link that "Waiting Brief" was also available at the time.

I am not an art lover really, but these just took my breath away and I had to buy one. You have to see the print (screen just doesn't do it justice) to appreciate the work in them. (Be surprised if I parted with £125 I couldn't really afford it then any more than today on something which isn't "useful".) Not surprised they're so sought after. Just shows I have got good taste after all!!

Champion of the Glen by Steven Townsend is my favourite also out of print

Each of his prints contains JTS hidden. I have yet to find one.

I think you mean '...that copy a photograph'?

(and have to stamps religion in it? Yech.)

For photo-realism there are cameras y'know... Stick to the D2X

However if you want to make £2,500 a go, take one of your excellent photographs and just paint the f***ker!
