archos help please

looking at getting my fella an archos thingy for xmas - does anyone know anything about them or have got one.

I am trying to choose between the

av420

we had a flyer from staples, it has a 40gb version with a spare battery for £350. thinking about getting one,just trying to figure out a reason for needing one!

My wife got an iRiver PMP-120 which is an 'archos type thingy' that plays mp3's and movies; it's rather nifty if that kind of thing floats your boat.

It's certainly better than an iPod....

As for a true 'archos thingy', no idea sorry.

I have an AV400 and it is truly brilliant

I also have the 100 gb 400, its great but the compact flash attachment is very flimsey. The first broke and the unit was replaced(after several weeks) the second has been okay except one time when I had difficuly inserting my card onle to find several of the pins had bent! I managed to bend them back into line but am very careful now

I've got an AV560, it's a great piece of kit

Currys were doing it on offer at £299 which was the best price I could find.
