Hello. Just in case any one is considering buying a flashgun for their Nikon, I can wholeheartedly recommend the SB600. I'm using a D70, and the two make a great pair. Both its automated and manual controls are fantastic, and the wireless remote release so that you may position the flash else where in the scene without any other gizmos is fantastic. If you need a flash this does the job very well. I can only think the SB800 is just as good with the added advantage of more flash power.

That's great to hear!

I believe the 800 has some further features too for the extra dosh, but I'm now looking at the 600 on my shopping list.

You do realise, however:

Well done Cliff for figuring out Commander Mode and SU4 settings! (well if it's anything like the SB800 you did!)

A little switch marked 'Master/Slave' would be so much easier...

Yep, beeen playing with mine tonight, great piece of kit. Wireless mode is great, some pics here

And Simpo - you aren't wrong, working that bloody wireless mode out is a bugger. I sussed the SB600 out in no time, but managed to miss the "commander" mode on the D70 for about 20 minutes. DOH!

this is with a SB600 & D100 straight from the camera with the flash bounced off the ceiling, miles better than the on camera flash.

the original isnt quite so sharp, i think photoshop may have done this when i resized the image.

That's a good lighting, IMHO.

The old SB26 has a little card that pulls out to direct some light at the face for a catchlight in the eyes. I don't suppose they were so far thinking when they designed the latest ones were they?

Is it YOUR turn today?

Anyway....

IIRC, one of the many benefits of the SB-600 and SB-800 (in simple terms) is that they can be triggered remotely (and wirelessly). For example the little flappy candle thing that pops up on the front of a D70 can act as "Commander" and control (several - if necessary) the remotely placed flash if in range.

But then Nikons have done something similar for years.....
