Leica D-Lux2 - FAO GetCarter
Discussion
Too much work and dull weather have meant I've not had much of a chance to play with my new toy, but so far, I'm very happy with it.
It's not much bigger than my Canon IXUS 700, although the size of the lens means it's effectively double the depth, so not as pocket sized as the baby Canon. It's well made, and feels nice and solid in the hand, with all controls being easy to reach.
The optional Crumpler case isn't that great though, so I've replaced it with a small LowePro Rezo 40 pouch which is a much better fit.
The LCD screen on the back is huge - taking up most of the camera, and is nice and clear, although slightly darker than the Canon's screen which may be a good thing for viewing when you're in bright sunshine, although not much chance of that at the moment
. One feature I do like is the live histogram option which updates in real time when you're composing the shot.
My good friend Lily offered to model for a few shots as I thought her dark fur would show up any noise issues that people have complained about.
This was the shot I took (in 16:9 format) with the camera set to ISO 400:
This has been run through Noise Ninja, then resized and saved for web.
Here is a 100% crop of the untouched image, straight after being processed from the RAW file:
And here is the same crop after processing with Noise Ninja:
Straight out of the camera, shots at ISO 80 and 100 are much cleaner than 400, however from what I've seen so far, even these clean up pretty well when you run them through Noise Ninja.

Sorry to but in, but I've recently discovered the Richoh GR Digital.
www.letsgodigital.org/html/review/ricoh/gr/digital_camera_EN1.html
It looks a beauty and if it's anything as good as the 35mm GR1 I own it will be brilliant.
The GR1 was said to be better than the Leica Minilux at the time and it's the only film camera I own that's now can be seen selling on ebay for twice of what I paid for it about eight years ago.
