I have some borders in black and white that I would like to use (rough edges, charcol effect etc) and I'm sure the idea is that the photo is supposed to replace the black, but I can't seem to do it. Can anyone give me any pointers?
Thanks

many ways:
one of them:
Open the boarder
Open the pic
resize pic to size of black
use 'move' tool to place pic over black
flatten image
save

Hi Steve,
thanks for the reply. What you describe is what I've been trying but I'm doing something wrong as when I move the pic over the border it just creates a new layer on top, the black is not replaced, so it seems I'm missing a step.

Use the border as a template for a layer mask. That way the picture will replace the black of the mask. (or vice-versa, may need to inverse the mask).
Someone more intelligent will turn up in a minute...

Ok, it seems I got it, thanks.
I applied the layer mask to a background copy of the original image, copied the border over and then chanegd the layer mode from normal to screen.
Cheers
