New Christmas present lens problem!
Discussion
Merry Christmas to all.
Just got my new Nikkon 60mm micro f2.8 today and have been playing around.
One quick question is, why will it not let me go down to f2.8 when focusing closer than about 3 feet?
I can use 2.8 all day except when you focus on something closer than 3 foot or so and then the camera automatically displays f 3.3 or higher. Tried apature priority and full manual but it just won't allow it!!??
Help please.

The camera's LCD shows progressively higher f-numbers as an AF Micro-Nikkor lens is focused closer because the optical elements inside are moving farther away from the camera so less light is reaching the film plane. The meter interprets this as a progressively smaller effective aperture, even though the actual aperture is not changing. This is normal with AF Micro-Nikkor lenses and does not indicate a malfunction.
