I've been using my D100 for just over a year now, and I have to say I find its low light performance really disappointing at times, some pics which should be useable as prints or posters are simply ruined by excessive noise. Noise reduction software can only do so much, mostly these images don't make it as posters. It doesn't seem to matter much whether I use ISO200 or ISO800 - its as though the longer shutter speed induced by ISO200 amplifies the noise too. Reds are particularly bad in low light. So does anyone else here use a D100 and if so whats your opinion of the 'noisiness' of the images you are getting?

What I'm also wondering is whether or not it's possible for a CCD to degrade in terms of its noise reduction performance over time? It's probably in my head (!) but I'd swear I'm getting noisier images now than I was a year ago.

Don't know as to whether the D100 is more susceptible to noise than any other camera - I do know that Canon are supposed to be better as far as noise goes but that doesn't help if like me you are already married to Mrs Nikon...

As for degrading - I've got a D70 and I notice noise much more now than I did when I got the camera a year ago. I think though that it's me that is more sensitive to it rather than the camera - I notice imperfections now that I would not have seen back then.

I agree that the reds are always the worst - whichever the camera.
