Hague Camera mounts.

I was just wondering if anyone has any knowledge of using these mounts for car/trackday photo/video stuff.
Am thinking of getting the SM4 model to mount the D70 outside the car and also a video cam inside.
Does anyone have one and know how good/big usefull they really are.
£170 (inc pp) is a bit more than I am happy to spend on a whim but I do think it would be a nice thing to have.

I have the kit from them.
Sturdy. Solid. It works.
Personally I wouldn't mount anything outside the car - and I doubt if any track day company will let you either. Inside the car - no problem. I mount a Canon video camera and record laps so I can watch them back to improve on them at later days. Haven't yet tried mounting the D70 on it, though. Might be fun. I'll have to see if the remote will let me fire of pics whilst driving....but that sounds like more than one should be doing whilst driving on track though.

I have also several bits of kit from them.
As said... solid... and they work.
If you use suction mounts internally on sunny days, do not leave them on facing the sun as they will crack your windscreen (I've seen this happen).
The suction mounts will take a HUGE amount of weight, but when on track you have to check every so often and 'pump the air out' (easilly done on a long straight after 10 laps or so) - or they will eventually fall off.
Tis good kit. Recommended.
Edited to add... sorry Greg, you're in a Noble, so 10 laps is unlikely
(before you shout, as you know, I have one on order!)

might want to check with MSV etc whether they'll allow this type of mounting even inside a car on their track days. Last time I was at one of their circuits they inspected all camera mounts (having got you to sign over any rights to use your own photos on any website or other media etc else run the risk of a £65k fee!!) and I believe wanted everythign to be on a permanent or at least rigidly secured camera mount.

Last Silverstone day I did - they announced that all in-car photography was banned. Some chap piped up - "but I've got a professional mount!". So they said "No-one takes a camera out on track without a marshall checking it for security, then.".
So I get a marshall to check...quoth he: "So you've used this before and it hasn't come off?". Quoth I: "Yep." Quoth he: "OK".
MSV may be more anal about it but everywhere I've been if its been firmly secured to a recognisably properly attached part of the car they've been fine about it.
Ref camera mountings on trackdays . . . Last time I heard all handheld stuff was being banned, but 'permanant' mounts were being allowed - at the time (end of the season) this did not exclude suction mounts . . . I was also speaking to someone who was suggesting that anything not basically bolted down would have to be tethered to something that was . . .
Of course this was at a track where they did not actually scrutineer the cars / mounts or anything else prior to letting people drive . . . but were black flagging folk hand holding mobile phones (passengers !) being used as cameras (why bother !) . . . so YMMV . . .
I have a hague suction mount that I may never use again (all my cars that I'd use on track have roll/harness bars in and I have a hague mounting clamp thing that fits them all) and I could be persuaded to part with it, immaculate nick, worked as it did when new last time I used it last year . . .

Ahh yes, that is unless you have the upgraded Intercooler and a good set of tyres!
Spoke to the guys at a trackday organiser that I use and they are fine with inside the car mounts and even said that outside the car would be ok if they could inspect the kit and it was alright and solid!!
I've got the Manfrotto version (think Hague is a re-branded Manfrotto) and can vouch for it working outside the car at 70mph without falling off. Do keep an eye out for the red line reappearing and be prepared to pump if it does. Works inside the car at normal temps but at 5 degrees C it didn't want to mount onto even the flattest of surfaces so don't leave it inside the car on a cold night before the day like I did. Book-a-track didn't mind suction mounts but they did object to hand-held cameras, I think that's a fair arrangement - frankly you don't want anything rolling around loose in the car on a track day. If you've had a small item wedge itself under the brake and clutch (not my car, a school vehicle) you'll know the buttock clenching feeling you get as a result !

Whaich model do you have Fd? Sounds interesting. Tried to call hague earlier but they are still playing their "closed for xmas" message so as yet I have not ordered one.
Feel free to mail through my profile if you prefer.
Thx Greg

A chap I knew drank his BOTTLE of coke on a track day and then threw it onto the floor. Guess what...
It fizzed up and made a mess next time he opened it?

I've got one Greg, I'll put up a pic later, and the problem I have with mine is it will only work on the Noble rollbar with the camera upside down.
Nartin.
Nartin, Joust had the same problem but got an extender bar that allows you to put the cam on the right way up.
I am talking about the big double suction cup mount for using in many applications throughout life!

M, you need to get the ball joint end from the SM1 here instead of the one you have.

Hi Greg, I have been using the SM1 with the optional "super clamp" as shown by V6GTO. I think it`s £98 for that combined kit. I`d recommend the SM4 over the SM1 as it looks more hefty but try and get that clamp as well. The superclamp has been very useful for interior positioning but can be rather bulky in tight spaces with all the extra bars etc - when I did filming in Garys Ultima, it was frankly a pig to get fitted due to lack of space for tightening the grip but gave a solid picture once installed!
Try this to see use of superclamp!

My suction mount is very strong but I`ve always added a safety strap if out side the car - just in case, but it has never yet lost suction up tp 70mph. The suction area does need an almost flat section of paneling though to "suck" properly.
When I used it on the Chimaera, any movement I got picture wise was from bonnet/boot flex rather than mount wobble.
