86400 x 43200 pixels
Enough to print onto 30' wide at 250dpi!
The detail is amazing, just amazing

There are masses more at http://visibleearth.nasa.gov/, and there are also different ones of the above for each of the months of the year (http://visibleearth.nasa.gov/view_set.php?categoryID
The "Bathymetry" ones (???) have facinating colours in the seas!
Take time choosing which one you like before you print it out!

These look awesome and I could put one to good use.
The problem is that once downloaded my pc sulks due to the file size!!
Could someone be really kind and re-size one of the full world pics - as in the first post here - (ideally a July one!) to about 2500 pixels x 1*** pixels so I could use this??
Cheers for any help,
John.

www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx
Right click the image, click resize image, then select custom and set the width and height in pixels.
Sure your PC can't cope with the 20Mb JPEG one??? - e.g.
http://veimages.gsfc.nasa.gov//7134/world.topo.20041
Read the readme.pdf (http://veimages.gsfc.nasa.gov//7134/readme.pdf) to find out what all the filenames mean.

It opens fine, but to try and edit it (ie resize) the program says its not possible due to the memory needed - I have 512mb so a bit suprised myself considering that I have photos upto 8mb which edit quickly with no hassle.
It tells me the image is an illegal width in other applications I try and open it with.

Thanks for that - problem solved!!
johnirving said:Ah - I assume you are using "paint" that comes with Windows. It's a crap program that can't cope with it - download Paint Shop Pro or GIMP and you'll be fine.

I tried PSP first, paint, Canon digital photo pro, ACDsee....... all sorts!!
None would have it, then used the Microsoft link (further down this thread) which allowed me to open the files once I had made them smaller.
Then I went back the the original 20mb+ file and for some reason that now opens fine too??
Not to worry - go the end result I wanted - in a roundabout way!
Thanks,
John.
