Got a Manfrotto delivered today and wow what a bit of kit, decided it was time to replace the £15 e-bay job I've been using for a year

Got this deal which seemed pretty good...

[nostalgicmode]I remember my first bit of Manfrotto kit well. A second hand monopod bought from Amature Photographer.![nostalgicmodeoff]

I remember it well because I'm still using it 15 later...hard as nails is how I'd describe it

Martin.

The Manfrotto stuff is excellent, I have the entry level 190 and compared to the Velbon shakepod it replaced it's 000's of times better. I can only imagine that the higher priced stuff is even better again.

How do people rate the Manfrotto micro tripods e.g. 741B? Looking for something compact and light for occasional use.

Edit: although there's a 190 on eBay for £80 which seems quite good (brand new)...

You'd need to factor in the cost of a head though wouldn't you?

Actually I don't get the whole seperate tripod/head thing. Does any Manfrotto head attach to any Manfrotto tripod, or are heads/tripods subject to some sort of industry standard fitments?

Having looked at Warehouse Express, I was about to ask that exact question

Any manfrotto head will fit any set of legs afaik, my 190 has a thread onto which the head attaches.

A friend of mine has just bought a cheaper tripod from ebay which looks very very similar to my 190 for much less and he's fitted a velbon 3 way head to it with no issues.
So I guess it's a standard 1/4" thread on them.

The shop I got mine from fitted the head for me while I was there, so I didn't get much of a look at the thread.

ive inherited a 441 recently, seems to be pretty nifty, but it has a video camera head on it at the moment. any recommendations for what head i should get bearing in mind I use it rarely (if you have to use a tripod you should be going to the gym more ) so I really just want something simple???

Ask Matt which one he has...he rates it highly.
