And what does that mean?

Cards seem to be unreadable . . .

www.Nikon.co.uk is your friend

When a Memory card is inserted into a D-SLR camera, the camera checks the card for compatibility and usability. There are three possible results of the test:

1) Camera detects valid Memory card, displays number of remaining images in top LCD

2) Camera displays “FOR” in top control panel LCD. The camera has detected a valid disk partition map, but was unable to read the first sector of the Memory Card. Formatting the memory Card using the cameras format option, should resolve this condition and allow the Mmeory card to be used.

3) Camera displays “CHA” in top LCD. The camera has detected an invalid partition type or is not working properly. Reformatting the memory card may allow it to be used. If an approved memory card causes the camera to display the "CHA" indicator contact the memory cards manufacturer for assistance.

Please note that the default disk format used in Windows XP is FAT32 and if a card is formatted with this setting on an XP system, a D1 series camera will report "CHA". Reformat the card as "FAT" to use in the D1 series camera.

I guess you need to reformat the card in your D70

Thanx for the advice, but formatting any card will show CHA again and again . . . could the housing of the card be damaged?

If it's doing it for one card, I'd bet on the card being broken, if it's doing it for 2 or more different cards, my money would be on a bust camera...

Sorry...

Could be a bent pin where you insert the card

I wouldn't have thought so, not without dismantling the camera, or at least having access to some jeweller's tools.

Sorry, i'm not being very helpful with my answers.

mail pins on a CF reader (or pretty much anything in fact) can be a real nightmare to fix, even with easy access. The number of times i've had to straighten pins to get a processor onto a motherboard does not bear mentioning.

Inside your camera body, access to the male pins will be very difficult. You may be able to straighten a bent pin with the right tools, but I'd wager you will struggle to even see which pin is bent, let alone straighten it.

If it were me I'd take it to the camera shop it was purcahsed from, or alternatively to your local nikon repair agent.

WTF . . . I've waited a while and guess what: all 3 cards work well now. Formatted each 3x and hoppa!

Why doesn't a cam has 1 Gb internal to tapp to pc or whatever . . . we wouldn't have all this scary crap: I watched some forums and the CHE-thingy is pretty common on D70s . . .

Thanx guys!

Edit: Dobbo, that's 3x! advertising?
