Hi all

I am looking to get an Ultra Wide Nikon lens. Anyone have any preferences to length or f stop? I do not want a Sigma one, Nikon only

My ideal would be the 14mm Nikon! Expensive though

Have handled the 10.5 and it's certainly light and easy to use. Better build quality than the Sigmas too. But the Nikon wide zoom - well everyone says it's not worth the £££s over the competition.

Having owned a Tokina lens for a few years I wouldn't hesitate to try their 12-24 too.

Second lens I'd like to get (after the 80-200mm f/2.8) is the 10.5mm fisheye. And though your needs may be different, in my case if I need to go any wider than 18mm I'm looking for an artistic effect anyway...

Don't mean to sound rude, but if you are only looking for a Nikon then why post and ask? The choice is the nikon range!

www.nikon.co.uk/

I'd discount the 10.5mm based on how little use it would get on my camera, leaving the 12-24mm. Prepare to haemorrhage money on something most people wouldn't use at all often. Sigma 12-24mm on the other hand... Martin (v6GTO) seems to manage pretty well with his.

No worries mate, I don't take offence very easily. All my lenses are Nikon but some ultra wides work better than others. I will take on board everything that has been said on here including considering other makes of lenses. Off in to town this morning so may have a look at the Sigma and Tokina. Thanks to all for your replies

Just re-read my post, what a miserable little turd i was this morning!

in a better mood now, ignore the first bit!

I'm quite certain the Nikon is a fabulous lens, which is backed up by it's average rating of 9.4 on Fred Miranda, compared to 8.something for the sigma.

If money is no object then the Nikon is clearly the best choice, but if the extra £600 odd quid could be better employed elsewhere then I doubt you'd regret buying the sigma.
