Martin the reason your picture doesn't show up is that it is still referring to the local file on your disk;

file:///J:/MY%20NOBLE/On%20the%20beach%20at%20midnight.jpg

What you need to do is "publish" your site (the terminology is different for different www design software) so that the links look like

www.wotapicture.com/On%20the%20beach%20at%20midnight.jpg

As said...

Once you have created your site, you need to make sure all the elements (photos, music - whatever) are uploaded to your webspace.

Don't worry, by inserting a photo onto your page (using a programme like dreamwaever for instance), it will automatically create the right link... as long as both the page and the photo are then uploaded to the same bit of webspace... it'll work.

The jargon is FTP - file transfer protocol - by which you hoof the whole caboodle from your PC into that part of cyberspace called your webspace.

You will either strike lucky and discover how it works pretty much by accident, or you may be doomed to live within your own PC for ever

I download a free trial of cuteftp, made the page with the photo in, then "published it to my site and made it the main page...I can't see where I went wrong.

Martin.

Home page should be 'index.htm', if that helps?

Depends how you've setup the server. Register1 servers default to index.html. I think MS IIS is Default.asp.

Martin, if you want free, try nvu ( www.nvu.com )
It'll publish the site too.
