Courmayeur Skiing [dial-up be very aware !]
Discussion
Haven't been on here for a while due to running a competition, going off skiing then coming back only to be rather ill for a week. So I've finally got around to putting up some snaps, there's even 3-4 of them that I like as photographs ! Hopefully they'll cheer up a dull Sunday morning anyway...
1. The weather was a bit grim when we arrived on Sunday the afternoon but it did mean that we had some fresh snow to ski on.
2. Cable car ride on first morning.
3. Gathering outside the hire shop, felt a little odd having this half way up the mountain !
4. More of the gang, a little nervous before the first run.
5. The scenery was worthy of a Christmas card shot.
6. Or two.
7. The view down the Aosta valley was good.
8. Moody atmosphere in the valley.
9. We went to a different restaurant each day, this was the first one.
10. The second one was a little more difficult to get to.
11. And ordering was 'unpredictable'.
12. But the view of Mont Blanc, or should I say Monte Bianco, was great !
13. The town itself wasn't very photogenic and was best seen by night.
14. The laundry facilities were a bit "rustic".
15. There was a festival on in town at the time but it seemed a bit lame.
16. It was hard to get a photo of our hotel.
17. But the hotel did provide free tea, coffee, soup and cakes apres-ski every day
18. Most mornings we were greeted by bright sunshine on our way up the mountain.
19. Which sparkled off the icicles.
20. And even gave me a bit of a tan !
21. Didn't actually see the glaciers melting.
22. Could have been that we were going too fast.
23. You have to be careful not to get mountain fever.
24. Snapping every mountain you see.
25. So here's a gratuitous "honey" shot to break them up.
26. They're all special in some way though.
27. We took a day trip through the Mont Blanc tunnel to ski at Chamonix.
28. We saw the sea of ice.
29. We ski-ed the Le Tour area
30. But couldn't work out what this place was.
31. As this is the Pistonheads web site I though I'd better include some motors.
32. It turned cold on the last day so I wore my silly hat to the mad Belgian's restaurant.
33. I'm sure she could have lifted the roof tiles by sheer force of personality alone !
34. Our trip home was delayed by well over 4 hours so we saw a lot of Geneva airport.
35. But at least we overtook the BA flight on the way home.
A great holiday and a great bunch of people to be with. Think I'll have to go back though as I forgot to take any photos at slow shutter speed whilst on the move, d'oh !
