there are 20 threads on the photo/video forum on the front page, and only 5 are actually to do with looking at pictures people have taken. Poor effort IMHO...

discuss (and hopefully do something about it)

ive been saying this for a while...a sad state of affairs. Most people here have money and like technology, so the non picture side of photography is bound to have a strong appeal. I learnt quite a lot here from the constructive criticism i got when i started out. I never really posted much technical stuff and i dont see why people do, particularly considering there are loads of review sites with side by side comparisons etc. Must just have nothing better to talk about...

I havent posted many pics because everything i take has to be held until after publication. Will post up something after next issues are out.

I'll be honest - ages ago I put up a thread with some pictures I'd taken, also giving my opinion on a lens I hired. It was there for quite a fews days and no one replied or acknowledged it in any way, shape or form. Backed up my thoughts that there's an in-crowd that mutually coo over each other's photos, so best not rock the boat.

I use www.ephotozine.co.uk now but even that can have a mutual ego-massage side to it.

I've not taken anything decent for a while now, so haven't posted anything... Well I have, but lots of pics of The Boy Fish would bore you all to death

ooooh controversial, i like it

to be honest i don't really bother coming here that often any more, although in the last week or so i've been around quite a lot, relatively speaking. i know what you mean about not getting the comments you want - there is no shortage of people to comment on techy threads. i find it a bit ironic that people complain about forums like DP review having people who only talk about equipment but can't take photos. well, it's hardly as if this forum is a lot different (that's not meant as an insult to anyone, just pointing out that not many photos are posted).

on a personal note, i was disappointed not to get more comments on my thread recently with my pinhole pics. not because they are amazing, but because I thought it was something interesting and different that would provke some conversation. looks like i was wrong. Mayeb a "what pinhole" thread would do better? I'm aware that i may be sounding like a whiner here, but so what...

Put some photos up for you, nothing special it was more case of taking the camera whilst out for a walk rather than going for a walk to take the camera out. And as you will see the weather wasn't conducive to hanging about setting up glorious vistas.

I liked your pinhole shots... I like the innovative feel of them... tried a lensbabie for a while.. but I've lost it somewhere ( probably been nicked by that pikey gravy ) I too feel there is a shortage of images on here to have fun with... all this talk about kit is very wearing.. I mean a camera is just a camera after all... I should know.. I think I own all of them!

In fairness, only 5 of the threads on the front page are "what ### shall I buy" type threads - the other non-photo threads are more general "how can I take this type of photo", or about reducing noise etc... so I don't really see the problem.

I do agree though that there should be less gear talk and more photos

Here's one I took over new year

Perhaps people should just post pictures of cameras?

Would it be possible to split this forum into "Gear Talk" and "Photo Sharing" for example?

Just a suggestion, i know the Powers that be can't do everything.

We had a thread a while ago bemoaning the paucity of photos being posted. I put it down to the weather, I'd rather stay in and watch TV than brave the elements... Guess I'm a fair weather photographer.

Interestingly enough, I've stopped posting threads of new pics I've taken, unless I think they are really secial. I've taken a bunch of photos recently that I'm pleased with, but I'm wary of posting them as they aren't that exciting.

Here's one(two actually) I took for a website I've been designing, enjoy:

But what lens should we use for this, and how many pixels will we need?

I don't think we should be embarrased of putting crap images up either...

heres one taken with a cream lens with filters, then hacked around in photoshop and oversharpened.. I hate horses and don't even know why I was there!

see I'm not proud

ed - like the photo, but i think you should clone out the two blades of grass that cross over the post

dobbo - like this photo too, except the two figures look like they have been processed differently, the one on the right is more contrasty. I think it would work better if they were more similar
