Feel stupid having to ask this!!

Just shot a pic in RAW for this months competition and have converted it to a tiff (30MB) in RSE, then artworked it in PS CS and resaved again as a tiff.

Then I went to image size and put in 750px and saved as a new pic but file size is 2mb and thus too big to upload to photobucket without serious resizing issues!

I have tried everything to "save as..." a jpg but PS CS won't let me!!! I can only save as a PSD tiff, etc, not any of the other usual formats.

How on earth do I change it to a file size or format I can upload to be 750 px in PH?

Thanks.

Greg

I hope you like the pic when I post it later!!

Yep, Image > Mode > 8-bit. Always worth poking that about if it doesn't do what you want

Finally tried a different method and got the picture to work.

Changed to 8bit and saved as jpg. Then use the microsoft custom resizer tool to resize to 748 px. Put into photobucket and hey-presto!

Its so annoying when you post a pic and it comes up tiny on PH. I never know why it sometimes works and other times doesn't.

Here it is again.

Any comments?

Why not do the resize in PS? Image / Image Size... and just set width to 750

Thats what I did do Phil, but then for some reason the pic went seriously pixelated. I put in 750 px and dropped the res to 100dpi to end up with a 1.5mb file that then compresses to about 300k when you save it.

Then it looks really blocky and photobucket uploads it as 750px but then PH resizes to 150 odd px.

All very strange.

Greg, photobucket resizes the images, based on the size of the file you upload. If you want it to retain the correct dimensions you have to ensure you compress the image appropriately, otherwise photobucket will do it for you.

Try irfanview. It's free and it's a great lil tool for looking/listening to many media files and easily making small changes.

Forget dpi, you're upoading to the web and not printing brochures. There are no inches on the web, only pixels.
From your source file or TIFF, when you're happy with it, Image > Resize to 750px and then 'Save As' JPG, choosing compression as you do so. Done

Simpo's Book of Cameras' starting point is 'A camera is a box with a hole in the front.'

So if you knew that, you're further up the tree than you realised

Why not open it up in 'Paint', then 'save as' and save it as a jpeg?

All sorted now thatnk.

It was the fact that a tiff is 16bit and you can't save a jpg as 16bit, only 8bit.

Thanks to the team.
