I came VERY close to buying a Sony HD Camcorder last week. The missus gave me the green light so I was amazed when I walked out of Meadowhall without one !

I currently use a Sony TRV20e which is a superb Digital Camcorder. Cost £1500 when I bought it a few years ago and it's still just like new.

I have to say that when I saw them demo in the shop I was not blown away like I expected to be. They demo'd the camera on a nice 32" lcd but after much soul searching I came to the conclusion that the improvement was not worth another £1500 at the moment.

One problem is where to put your finished video ? Their is currently no HD format to record to. I could save the video to my HD and stream it through my Xbox360 but even with a Terrabyte of storage it would soon eat up the space.

The camera did look good though ....

The video comes out crisper and is much more flexible as far as importing. In other words, you can import it at standard def now and then reimport it later on when they finalize the HDDVD/Blu Ray standard. I find that HD also gives better colour and less abberation than standard def.

In order to fully utilize HD right now, you do need some sort of media centre pc with either local storage or streaming capability.

I went HD to future proof my videos. It's not a matter of "if" HD for the home becomes ubiquitous, it's when.

You might want to try this when it comes out soon - should be around the £800 mark:
