Original image is under-exposed and to my mind the effect doesn't work, it just looks as if something's gone wrong. I'm not sure there's enough interest in the picture to make anything.
What difference would more exposure bring? (reading books now, but sometimes it's tough to figure what the book is talking about
) Cheers.

More exposure would make everything brighter ;-)
So if you look at the original image, I would expect the socket to be white . . . but it's grey . . . and thus probably underexposed . . .

Greg...you're so hurtful!
I agree with Simpo about not having a point of interest in the original shot, but the way it has been manipulated gives a good lift to an ordinary subject. I could see a row of similar images working, or maybe a poster with similar images around the outside and a plug, (processed the same way), in the middle.
I like it.
Martin.

I can see that image of the socket in an electrical parts catalogue. I like it but then, I tend not to look at every pic and dissect it for errors or focal points etc. I think too much emphasis is placed on the rule of thirds, colour balance and points of interest. At the end of the day, if you like it, it matters not what others think.

My thought with the power theme was that the power is switched on but nothing was plugged in. Also there seem to be two halves to the image, the left half with the holes for the socket and the right half with the switches. Needs something to link the two together compositionally and philosophically - a swirl of light from a torch bulb or some LEDs for example.
